The contrast between Berlin and Africa is noticeable, Berlin being a thriving city, with much in the way of wealth and comfortable life style. Berlin, although almost destroyed in the second world war has been entirely rebuilt and is thought to be one of the worlds biggest restoration projects. The people of Africa however live entirely different lives, spending each day not knowing where their next meal is coming from, and at night whilst sleeping, not knowing if they will be bitten by one of the millions of Malaria Mosquitoes.
It is a world away from what people have in central Europe, an African’s life is so simple, there only need is food and water and if possible shelter. In Europe and the western world we require the best in accommodation, televisions, clothing and mobile phones are a must have accessory. There are no phones in Africa, no televisions, no clothing apart from the clothes which have been sent over by aid workers. Most African’s have never heard of phones let alone seen one.
Accommodation wise you would expect less than basic in Africa, there is usually no running water in the poorest of villages, and food is hard to come by. It is often a distressing sight for a westerner visiting this country, due to the fact that we have everything and they have nothing. The same world, but two very different ways of living life. There is a choice of accommodation in Berlin and apartments Berlin are often in competition with others which surround them, meaning the facilities are up to date and modern. Comfort is paramount to both the guest and the hotel, and every provision necessary is in place to ensure that the guest thoroughly enjoys their stay. Extras such as irons, trouser presses, laundry service is on hand just in case. Swimming pools, gyms and saunas are often a must for business men and women visiting the city.
The entertainment and nightlife is diverse and offers something for everyone, most people who visit Berlin are impressed enough to re-visit the city. If nightclubbing is your bag then there are plenty to visit, some of them being renowned throughout Europe.
Whilst us Europeans usually expect the best in accommodation, in Africa they expect little, it is sometimes good to reflect on what we have and appreciating it once in a while, for there are those amongst us who don’t have the choice of what mobile phone to buy next, or where to go on holiday, or what apartment Berlin to rent.
